Lasting thoughts
As I grow older and eventually gray,
looking back on my life, I want to say,
that I loved you more with each passing day.
When at last I come to the eternal rest,
lying there awaiting that final test,
I only want to hear you say I loved you best.
Before I close my eyes at the very last,
hold me tight and remember all the times past,
those wonder-filled times gone by so fast.

Nice poem. Sums up what we all feel deep in our hearts and souls. Let us love fully and completely and be loved that way in return.
Very lovely, but sad, since the loving is apparently in the past tense. Sad also that it seems that those that inspire us most depart from us far too quickly...

It's a heartfelt poem written from the soul. I found myself feeling these emotions when my first husband died two years ago, love never really dies...you don't spend years with someone and turn it off - so your poem strikes a chord in me...very well written...thanks...Sandi
